Benign Skin Lesion Removal: Moles & Tags
Moles, skin tags and milia can catch, rub or simply become something you want removed. Origin Skin uses advanced Er:YAG laser and radiofrequency for suitable benign lesions, offering a non-surgical approach while preserving surrounding skin and aiming to minimise recovery and scarring.
What Are Benign Skin Lesions?
Benign skin lesions are non-cancerous spots or growths that can differ in colour, texture, shape and depth. Most do not need to be removed, but cosmetic treatment may be considered when a lesion catches, rubs, becomes irritated or affects someone’s comfort or confidence.
Because different types of lesions form in different ways, the most appropriate treatment and expected healing can vary.
Origin Skin does not diagnose skin cancer or determine whether a lesion is benign. Any lesion that is new, changing, irregular, bleeding, symptomatic or has not previously been medically assessed should be checked by a GP, dermatologist or skin cancer doctor before cosmetic treatment.
Common Causes & Contributing Factors
Genetics & Skin Characteristics
Genetics and individual skin characteristics can influence the number and appearance of moles, while some people are more likely to develop certain benign growths.
Friction & Skin Folds
Skin tags commonly develop where skin rubs against skin, clothing or jewellery, including the neck, underarms and other skin folds.
Keratin & Skin Glands
Milia form when keratin becomes trapped in small cysts beneath the skin. Sebaceous hyperplasia develops when sebaceous (oil) glands become enlarged, creating small raised bumps on the skin.
Age, Sun & Vascular Changes
Sun exposure can increase the number of acquired moles. Seborrheic Keratosis and Cherry Angiomas can also become more common with age.
Types of Benign Skin Lesions

Moles (Naevi)
Moles are pigmented skin growths that may be flat or raised and can vary in colour, shape and size. Moles must be appropriately assessed as benign before cosmetic removal.

Milia
Milia are tiny, firm, white or yellowish bumps caused by keratin trapped beneath the surface of the skin. They commonly appear around the eyes and cheeks.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia
Small, soft, skin-coloured or yellowish bumps caused by enlarged sebaceous (oil) glands. They commonly appear on the forehead, cheeks or nose and may have a small central dip.

Cherry Angiomas
Cherry angiomas are small benign vascular growths that usually appear as bright red, dark red or purple spots on the skin.

Skin Tags
Skin tags are small, soft growths that often develop where skin rubs against skin or clothing, including the neck, underarms, eyelids and other skin folds.

Seborrheic Keratosis
Seborrheic keratosis are benign growths that can appear waxy, rough or slightly raised and range from lighter skin tones through to brown or darker shades.
Expectations & Recovery
Appointment Length
Timing depends on the number, type, size and location of the lesions being treated.
Treatment Details
Depending on the type and location of the lesions Origin Skin uses laser or radio frequency devices to precisely target the benign lesions without damaging the skin around them. This procedure dehydrates the lesions without burning or freezing, making them shrink and dry out.
Treatment Sensation
Treatment may feel briefly hot, sharp or stinging. Comfort measures are selected according to the area and treatment method.
After Treatment
A dry scab will form then come off in few days time. Our clients continue their usual activities during this time. We provide written aftercare instructions and remain available if you have questions during recovery.
Results & Sessions
Most clients do not experience any marks or scars. Multiple lesions can be treated in one appointment. Larger or deeper ones may need more treatment; regrowth or pigment change can occur. Complimentary follow-up and review appointments are available to assess your progress and discuss whether further treatment or ongoing maintenance may be beneficial.
Who is Suitable for this Treatment?
This treatment may be considered for adults with lesions that have been medically assessed as benign and are suitable for the methods offered at Origin Skin.
☑ Selected benign moles or seborrheic keratoses suitable for cosmetic treatment
☑ Soft skin tags or persistent milia
☑ Small cherry angiomas already confirmed as benign
☑ Small Sebaceous Hyperplasia
Treatment may be delayed or unsuitable during pregnancy, after recent tanning, over active infection or broken skin, or where medicines or health conditions affect healing, clotting or light sensitivity. We always conduct an assessment first.
Why Choose Our Approach?
For suitable benign lesions, Origin Skin offers a controlled alternative to surgical excision or at-home removal. Er laser and radiofrequency can remove selected moles, skin tags and other lesions with minimal to no visible scarring, without routine scalpel excision or stitches. Multiple suitable lesions may be treated in one appointment, avoiding repeated DIY applications and their added bleeding, infection and scarring risks, with suitability assessment, aftercare and honest guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Treatment may feel briefly hot, sharp, stinging or like a small prick. Sensation depends on the lesion, body area and treatment method being used. Local anaesthetic can be used to reduce discomfort. Comfort measures are discussed before treatment, and the area may feel temporarily tender as it begins to heal.
Our approach is designed to remove suitable superficial lesions with minimal to no visible scarring. Individual results depend on the lesion, skin and healing response, and aftercare. Temporary redness or pigment change may occur during healing.
No. Origin Skin assesses selected benign moles, skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas, seborrheic keratoses and sebaceous hyperplasia. The suitable treatment depends on the type, size, depth and location of the lesion. Anything suspicious or requiring diagnosis, biopsy or pathology cannot be treated cosmetically at Origin Skin.
Many small, suitable lesions may be treated in one appointment. Larger, deeper or multiple lesions may require further treatment. The number also depends on the treatment method, body area and healing response. We assess progress before recommending another session rather than promising a fixed number.
Yes. We assess the lesion’s type, size, depth and location and review relevant health, medication, scarring and healing history then give an exact quote. However, you can contact us before booking. We offer virtual video consultations and free preliminary guidance from your photos, including an indication of treatment suitability and a rough cost estimate. This can help you understand whether treatment may be suitable before travelling to the clinic or committing to an in-person appointment. This does not replace a medical skin check. We can recommend if you need one. Any new, changing, irregular, bleeding, symptomatic or previously unassessed lesion must be checked by a GP, dermatologist or skin cancer doctor first.
Some lesions can recur if deeper cells, tissue or a cyst lining remain. New moles, skin tags, milia, angiomas or seborrhoeic keratoses may also develop elsewhere over time. Any regrowth that looks unusual or begins changing should be medically assessed rather than automatically retreated.
You cannot reliably confirm this from appearance alone. See a GP, dermatologist or skin cancer doctor if a spot is new, changing, different from your other spots, irregular, bleeding, itchy, painful, growing or not healing. Origin Skin does not diagnose skin cancer or determine whether a lesion is benign. We can recommend if you need to see a doctor to check.
Yes. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Er:YAG laser can successfully remove selected benign moles, seborrhoeic keratoses, milia and other superficial benign lesions. Radiofrequency is also an established method for removing suitable skin tags and selected benign growths. The method is chosen according to the lesion, and results can vary, with scarring, pigment change or regrowth still possible.
